Autumn Budget 2026: What it could mean for your finances
October 2026

Following the Chancellor’s Autumn Budget announcements, we appreciate that some clients may have concerns about how potential changes to taxation, pensions and inheritance tax could affect their financial arrangements.
In particular, we know that many of our clients have been following the government’s proposals to bring unused pension funds within the scope of inheritance tax from April 2027, and may have been concerned about the possibility of further changes.
We would like to offer some reassurance
Based on the measures currently announced, there have been no further changes to the planned inheritance tax treatment of pensions that would fundamentally alter the discussions and planning we have already been undertaking with our clients.
Over recent months, we have been discussing these forthcoming changes during our regular review meetings and conversations, considering their potential impact on pension benefits, estate planning and the wider financial circumstances of individual clients.
The advice and planning considerations we have been discussing remain relevant, and there is no reason for clients to make hasty decisions in response to Budget speculation or headlines.
Equally, we do not currently anticipate that the wider measures will require significant changes to the investment arrangements we manage for the majority of our clients.
For us, it is very much business as usual. We will continue to monitor tax and legislative developments and consider their implications as part of our ongoing advice service and regular client reviews.
Naturally, if any changes affect your individual circumstances or financial planning objectives, we will discuss these with you and recommend appropriate action where necessary.
Below, we have provided an overview of some of the key areas being discussed and what they could mean for your finances.
ISAs and savings
ISAs remain an important and tax-efficient way of saving and investing, with investment returns generally free from UK income tax and capital gains tax. The decision to reduce the cash ISA annual allowance has been reversed and the allowance will remain at £20,000 per tax year.
Any confirmed changes to ISA allowances or the arrangements for first-time buyers will be considered as part of our ongoing financial planning discussions.
For the majority of our existing investment clients, the key consideration remains making appropriate use of available tax allowances and ensuring their savings and investments continue to meet their objectives.
Tax on savings and property income
Changes to the taxation of savings and rental income, together with frozen income tax thresholds, could affect some individuals over the coming years.
For clients with significant cash savings or rental income, this reinforces the importance of reviewing how assets are held and making appropriate use of available tax-efficient arrangements.
Pensions and inheritance tax
This is understandably one of the areas attracting the greatest interest among our clients.
The previously announced proposal to include most unused pension funds and pension death benefits within estates for inheritance tax purposes from April 2027 remains a significant consideration for longer-term financial planning.
However, there have been no further confirmed changes to these proposals that would cause us to fundamentally reconsider the approach we have been discussing with clients during their recent reviews.
Our discussions around pension withdrawals, retirement income, potential gifting, inheritance tax exposure and passing wealth to future generations therefore remain relevant.
Importantly, pensions continue to offer valuable tax advantages, and any decision to withdraw funds, alter beneficiary arrangements or change an existing retirement strategy should be considered carefully in the context of your overall financial circumstances.
We will continue to review these matters with you as part of our ongoing service.
Business owners
For clients who own businesses or are considering a future sale, changes to capital gains tax reliefs and other business taxation measures may have implications for their longer-term plans.
Where relevant, we will consider these developments alongside your wider financial objectives and, where appropriate, recommend obtaining specialist tax advice.
What does this mean for your financial plans?
Our principal message is one of reassurance.
While taxation and legislation will continue to evolve, successful financial planning is based on a considered, long-term approach rather than reacting to individual announcements.
For the majority of our clients, we do not currently see a need to make immediate changes to their existing investment portfolios or financial planning arrangements solely as a result of the Budget.
We will continue to monitor developments, review your investments and pension arrangements, and consider any relevant changes as part of our regular ongoing review process.
At Financial Advice Centre Ltd, it remains business as usual, with the same focus on managing your investments, protecting your financial interests and helping you achieve your long-term objectives.
Of course, if you have any particular concerns about how the Budget or forthcoming inheritance tax changes may affect you or your family, please do not hesitate to contact an adviser. We will be very happy to discuss these with you.
